Hoots, Shakas, and a Surf Film Festival

Hope everyone’s getting ready to throw plenty of HOOTS and SHAKAS next weekend, May 11-13th,for the first annual San Diego Surf Film Festival! The three day event of surf, art and music will take place at Bird’s Surf Shed on Morena Blvd. Along with the 15 or so films and 22 shorts that will be shown across the 3-day event, some activities scheduled for attendees include a meet and greet with the filmmakers, live music, a shaping demo, and bodysurf takeover of LJ Shores/ Scripps, plus much more! Pierce and Petra Kavanagh and Ed Lewis, the creators of SDSFF have got a pretty spectacular event planned. They are certainly starting this tradition right!

3 days of Surf, Art and Music

Of the films on deck for the SDSFF are a variety of themes, including adventure, locations, history, talent, and pure stoke. They all present a different experience to share with the audience that you don’t want to miss out on. Pierce, Petra and Ed have brought an eclectic group of independent filmmakers to San Diego from all over the world, who will showcase their talent behind the lens and share their perspective on the “stoke” of surfing.

San Diego, known for its variety of surf and the surfers that have made their name her, has played an integral part in surfing’s history and influence in its progression, and will be a great host for the SDSFF!

The Center for Surf Research of SDSU will also be attending the event, lending a hand any way that we can and sharing the CSR’s goals for sustainability in surf tourism.

Big HOOTS and SHAKAS to Pierce, Petra and Ed for making this thing happen, it’s going to be an incredible event! Hopefully the first of many!
