Dean LaTourrette currently works as an independent marketing and business development consultant, helping organizations with marketing and brand strategy, communications, and market development, among other areas. From 2007–2013 he served as Executive Director of Save The Waves Coalition, a global nonprofit dedicated to protecting and preserving the coastal environment, with an emphasis on the surf zone. He also was a founding board member, helping grow the organization from its infancy. In his tenure at Save The Waves he directed programs and campaigns to help protect coastal resources around the world, including the successful launch of World Surfing Reserves (WSR) in 2009, an innovative proactive coastal protection initiative, and he continues to serve on the Save The Waves board of directors as well as on the Advisory Board for Sustainable Surf, a nonprofit focused on transforming surf culture and industry into a force to protect the ocean.
An accomplished writer, publisher, and marketing professional, his writing has appeared in a variety of national and international publications, including Men’s Journal, The Surfer’s Journal, San Francisco Magazine and numerous others. He co-founded Leisure Team Productions, a media and publishing company, where in addition to serving as president, he co-authored and released two award-winning non-fiction titles. Dean also has over 15 years marketing and business development experience, working for a variety of companies in technology, financial services and consumer products, along with an MBA from the University of Washington.
Dean has a passion for both the ocean and the environment that began at an early age, surfing the waters around Santa Cruz, California. These days he lives and surfs with his family at Ocean Beach, San Francisco.
