Emilia Cloutman

Undergraduate Assistant

Emilia Cloutman is currently in her first year at San Diego State University and she is truly stoked to be working with the Center for Surf Research. She first became immersed in the surf culture her sophomore year of high school. Since then, she’s volunteered with the YMCA Surf Camp in Imperial Beach teaching people of all ages how to remain aware of their environmental impact on the world, while simultaneously teaching them how to surf and respect the ocean. Emilia wishes to further educate people about sustainability and leave a lasting impression so that they are more consciously aware of their actions and the effect they have on the environment. She sees the opportunity for sustainability to grow throughout the surf culture/industry and become a more popular, and widely used concept. She is extremely passionate about both surfing and sustainability and is excited to be a part of the research being done to intertwine the two.
