This June many surfers will anticipate several occurences in the surfing world: the high school year coming to an end, i.e. ultra crowds, meager and (hopefully) warmer conditions, and International Surfing Day.
As the sport of surfing continues to grow extending across the globe, this should be the biggest ISD yet. It will be a day to celebrate: by first and foremost GOING SURFING, by raising awareness of conservation of the environment, and by being thankful for the many rewarding experiences the sport has given us.
The Surfrider Foundation announced this week that World Champion surfers Kelly Slater and Stephanie Gilmore have signed on to be this year’s International Surfing Day Ambassadors. Observed globally on June 20th International Surfing Day celebrates the sport of surfing and helps raise awareness about issues facing our oceans, waves and beaches.
Follow Kelly on Facebook (www.facebook.com/KellySlater) and Twitter (@KellySlater), and Stephanie (@steph_gilmore) on Twitter as they update fans on what they are doing for International Surfing Day, and how supporters can get involved with a local event and give back to our oceans, waves and beaches.
