Surf Craft Exhibit Opens at the Mingei Museum

Standing alone, these boards...tell a compelling story about the evolution of an important American art form

The Surf Craft Exhibit in the San Diego Mingei International museum is officially open! Surf Craft is a surfboard exhibition that explores board design from the context of Soetsu Yanagi’s mingei philosophy of the importance of the craft. Come visit Surf Craft and explore for yourself the art of surfboard designs including the influences that have inspired American surfboard designs over the years. These boards they tell a compelling story about the evolution of an important American art form. In addition, features of this exhibit includes innovative surfers and board-shapers who are important models of surf history including legendary surfer, Bob Simmons and local San Diegan, Carl Ekstrom.
